But unlike any other app I tested, Reeder will hide panels depending on how big the current window is. The app has three panels, like most RSS apps: feeds on the left, a list of articles in the middle, and the current article on the right. What I love, though, are the small touches that aren't obvious in a single screenshot. That's self-evident in the screenshot above: the typography, the semi-transparent left panel, and the layout all draw the eye quickly. For 2023, I considered 25 apps and tested ten of them. I update this article every year, searching the web for new Mac RSS apps to highlight and testing every one that meets my criteria. I only considered native apps for this list. A web app isn't good enough, and neither is a ported iPad app. Syncing with a third-party service like Feedly is a plus for cross-platform users, but native syncing using iCloud also works. That way, you can catch up with your feeds on another device. That this pernicious tosh works as romantic comedy is entirely due to Roberts, in the role that shot her to stardom, and Richard Gere, visibly wowed by this winsome popsy in thigh-high boots. Sex worker meets millionaire on Hollywood Boulevard he pays for her to go frock-shopping they fall in love. Julia and Sam’s relationship resolves itself in one of those classic blunders – a poisoned coffee cup switcheroo. Roberts has a ball playing a classic femme fatale in George Clooney’s directing debut, adapted by Charlie Kaufman from the mythomaniac memoirs of Chuck Barris (Sam Rockwell), an American gameshow host who claims to have moonlighted as a CIA hitman. Sit back and enjoy fabby-looking film stars ambling around Amsterdam, Paris and Rome, where Mrs Ocean (Roberts) is inveigled into impersonating … famous film star Julia Roberts. Roberts slips easily into the relaxed ensemble cast of Steven Soderbergh’s caper movie sequel which at times approaches Pure Cinema in its nonsensical plotting (stock certificates, Fabergé egg, who cares), transportive soundtrack and breezy stylisation. Roberts is formidable in crimped blond curls as this prototype Trumpette, declumping her mascara with a safety pin while rattling off facts about surface-to-air missiles. Mike Nichols’ final film stars Tom Hanks as a real-life Texas congressman who in the 1980s formed a sneaky alliance with a maverick CIA man and a rightwing socialite to supply arms to Afghan freedom fighters. Julia wears at least one baggy jumper, but some Hitchcock-style flirting would not have gone amiss. Denzel Washington, who reportedly nixed any hint of interracial romance, plays a reporter who helps her run away from hitmen. Roberts is at her most Bambi-like as a law student targeted by assassins after stumbling across a not-very-interesting conspiracy in this John Grisham thriller. Jacob Tremblay nails the central role, with Roberts so beautifully supportive as his mum that you wish she could mother you too. Wonder (2017)Ī 10-year-old boy with a rare facial disfigurement starts school, where he has to learn to make friends and avoid bullies in the sort of heartwarming gush where you start off cynically sneering, but end up blubbing. Roberts with (from left) Owen Wilson, Jacob Tremblay and Izabela Vidovic in Wonder. Straighten out all the plot twists and chronological juggling and you’re left with less than meets the eye, but there are worse things than watching two good-looking actors flashing insincere smiles and having sex with each other in glamorous surroundings. Roberts and Clive Owen play rival corporate spies in this globe-trotting romcom-cum-caper movie, Tony Gilroy’s follow-up to Michael Clayton. Roberts serves up a shattering display of frustrated rage as a doctor collating information about the mystery virus killing her patients. Ryan Murphy’s film about the Aids crisis in 1980s New York contains all the speechifying you’d expect from an HBO adaptation of Larry Kramer’s play, but still hits the spot. As the voice of the eponymous spider, Roberts radiates barnyard wisdom in this live-action version of EB White’s children’s classic, and I defy you not to bawl your eyes out. So you think you can resist Dakota Fanning adopting a piglet, or Oprah Winfrey as a talking goose? Think again. This domestic violence thriller with a slasher movie vibe is arguably the acme of Julia’s baggy jumper phase. Roberts plays a wife so desperate to escape her abusive, towel-tidying husband that she fakes her own death and moves to Iowa, where she meets a nicer chap and learns to wear baggy jumpers. Tracy Letts adapted his own stage play featuring endless, tedious truth-telling around the dinner table. Roberts goes head-to-head against a grandstanding Meryl Streep, but holds her own and nets her fourth Oscar nomination as a member of a horrible family reuniting in Oklahoma when the alcoholic patriarch goes missing. Meanwhile, the screen’s most formidable divas (Sally Field, Shirley MacLaine et al) try to outdo each other’s southern belle impressions in this terrifying hen party favourite. “I’ll just have a kidney transplant, I’ll be fine,” says Roberts, winning her first Oscar nomination for her performance as a diabetic daughter. Roberts with Tom Skerritt in Steel Magnolias. The most popular Laphroaig is aged for at least 10 years, but there are many much older bottles available too. This is where that unique peaty aroma comes from, and the tradition continues today, with much of the peat and barley being locally sourced from Islay and smoked on-site. The distillery was founded in 1815 by members of Clan Donald, and they made use of the abundance of peat on Islay to smoke the barley before distillation. The Laphroaig Distillery is one of the best whisky distilleries in Scotland (not just on Islay!), and we know you’re going to love exploring their visitors center and learning about the history and production process. Islay is highly regarded for its single malt whisky, and if you’re looking for Islay distilleries, there are as many as nine different distilleries producing high-quality products across the island! Islay whisky has a characteristically peaty, smoky flavor, and no other Islay whisky enshrines this more than Laphroaig. This unusual, ancient peat gives Highland Park’s whisky a characteristic taste and aroma, which few single malts from the mainland can ever match. The whiskies here are single malt, and they are produced using barley that’s slowly smoked over peat that’s 4,000 years old (we did say this was a historic distillery). You might be intrigued to discover that the original distillery established here was an illicit one, but then again, given Orkney’s remote location (it’s closer to Norway than to London!), the islanders here have always done things their own way. Highland Park Whisky Distillery dates back to 1798, and the master distillers draw on this long history, as well as the wild, untamable nature of Orkney, to produce a truly distinct array of whiskies. The Highland Park Whisky Distillery is the most northerly distillery in Scotland, and you’ll need to make your way all the way to Kirkwall, on the island of Orkney, to enjoy a dram of this whisky at its source. One of the best Scottish distilleries is found in one of the country’s most remote and difficult-to-reach destinations. The tour ends with a tasting, where you’ll be able to sample the delectable Glennfiddich 12-year, 15-year, and 18-year aged bottles before finishing with the Glenfiddich Gran Reserva, which is aged for 21 years in old rum casks from the Caribbean. You can tour the distillery to learn more about the family’s history of whisky production and how they’ve evolved and developed their brand over the years, surviving hardships and economic forces that put many more family-owned distilleries out of business. This is the classic Speyside Single Malt, and if you’re partial to a dram of this iconic tipple, then this is the best place to enjoy it! The distillery sources its water from the Fiddich River and employs generations worth of whisky-making experience to produce an excellent single malt. Second, no other distillery has remained family-owned for so long, with a continuous history dating back to 1886, when the Glenfiddich Distillery was founded by William Grant. First of all, no other distillery has won quite as many awards as this distillery for their single malts – proving the quality of their whiskies. Glenfiddich Distillery is unusual in a number of ways. One of the most famous whisky brands in Scotland is Glenfiddich, and you can visit their family-owned distillery in the beautiful surrounds of remote Moray, in northeast Scotland. Once you’ve perused the extensive collection, you’ll be invited for a tasting session in the Amber Restaurant & Whisky Bar. This is the largest collection of scotch whisky in the world, with the last count putting the number of bottles at 3,384. You can also see the unique Diageo Claive Vidiz Whisky Collection, which is safely stored away in the vaults of The Scotch Whisky Experience. Oh, and there’s a fun theme-park style “barrel ride” through the experience! You’ll learn about the different ingredients, the different whisky-producing regions in Scotland, and the different flavors, tastes, and aromas that different types of whisky are known for. This unique experience is home to a replica whisky distillery, where you’ll learn about the centuries-old processes that go into making the finest blends and malts. The Scotch Whisky Experience takes pride in its place on Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile, and if it’s your first time in Scotland, there’s no better place to learn about the ancient art of distillation before sampling the best scotch from around the country. Okay, so Edinburgh’s Scotch Whisky Experience isn’t technically a distillery – no whisky is distilled on the site – but it is the best place in Scotland for an introduction to all things whisky! I cannot even get through three full shaves with a Feather blade before they become uncomfortable. Thus, I consider them sharp, but not smooth. While Feather blades are quite sharp, they feel rather harsh on my skin. I consider blades that do not cause skin irritation to be smooth. However, I also have very sensitive skin, easily irritated by shaving. These blades easily slice through my beard with no tugging. The blades that seems to be sharpest are: Feather, BIC Chrome Platinum, Gillette Nacets, 7 O'Clock Blacks, Personna Israeli Reds, and German Wilkinson Swords, and Dorco Prime Platinum STP301. I like blades that will sever the bristles with little effort. I have a very coarse, fast-growing beard. I am not surprised that "average" shavers cannot tell the difference between sharp and smooth, but with my beard and skin, I can tell the difference. I am sure that the early Gillette research was based on "average" shavers that were Gillette's target market at the time. This Drag Theory lead to the development of coated razor blades and specifically the Organosiloxane Gel coated Super Blue Blade (1959). After discovering in his test lab that shavers could not tell the difference in blade sharpness, he was responsible for break-thru research that determined that blade sharpness was not a critical factor in receiving a good shave rather a reduction in drag by hair clinging to the blade causing pulling was needed. He designed the Toggle razor (1955), the Bottom Dial razor (1956), a single edge blade dispenser (1949), the Blue Blade Speed-pak double edge blade dispenser (1948), a rustproofing process, the plastic retail razor case (1949) among others. An MIT Chemical Engineering graduate, he was the lead inventor of the adjustable safety razor and received over two dozen Gillette patents for his work. Mr Shnitzler was the Vice President & Director of Research and Development working at Gillette from 1933 till 1967 and for 10 years thereafter as a consultant. I do not recommend Shark Super Stainless blades as I find they are neither sharp nor smooth, but others may disagree. I cannot even use the blades that are at the dull end of the range, but those with beard that are not so coarse temd to like the Derby Extra blades due to their smoothness. In more aggressive razors with significant blade exposure on the skin, I use mid-sharp blades as the sharpest blades are too rough. In mild razors, I like the very sharpest blades. I have a rather tough beard and rather sensitive skin, so I want a sharp/smooth blade. After trying a variety of blades, you should determine what type of blade works best for you. If you have not already done so, I highly recommend purchasing a sampler pack containing blades that range from rather dull (Shark Super Stainless and Derby Extra) up through the sharpest blades (Feather, BIC Chrome Platinum, Nacets and 7 O'Clock Black) with some mid-range blades included as well. So weather they are worth the price depends on your needs and preferences. Both the Blacks and Nacets tend to be more expensive than the 7 O'Clock Green and Silver Blue blades (when purchased in 100 packs). I find the Blacks are similar in quality to the Gillette Nacets with the Nacets being just a tad sharper and the Blacks being just a tad smoother. The 7 O'Clock Super Platinum blades made in India and packaged in the Black box are excellent blades if you like very sharp/smooth blades. They should work for most people, but whether they work for you will depend on your beard, your skin type, and the razor in which you use them. I find them to be similar to the 7 O'Clock Green blades. If the blue box SuperPlatinum blades are the same as the Silver Blue blades from Russia, they are good blades, but they are neither the sharpest nor the smoothest.
